The Transitional Learning Center at Lubbock, TX
To say thank you for the outstanding gifts that you bestowed upon our team and our patients is truly minimal and seems inadequate. Imagine the excitement that our patients showed when they saw the instruments that you gave to us. They will definitely be able to express themselves in ways that they have not been able to up to this point in their recovery.
All of our patients have had an injury to their brain. Most of them lead “normal” lives up to the point of their injury. Most come to us after they have been battling for their lives. They are tired, scared and not the same person they were before. Some can’t speak. Some can’t control their emotions. Some can’t express themselves in a way that others can understand. Some are even locked in to themselves. Music is a way for them to express themselves, as it requires no words. It is a way It is a way to let their feelings flow and to heal. I recently watched a gentleman play the guitar and sing when he couldn’t speak. Music is a healing that our patients needed. You have given that to them.
After you gave the instruments to us, our Medical Director, Roger Wolcott, walked in and was speechless. He just rubbed his head and kept asking, “They gave that to us?” He asked if we knew what that meant to the patients. Our therapists, the ones who help patients play the instruments, couldn’t quit smiling and immediately came up with plans to utilize them. Everyone kept asking to see the gift. Our president, who is a neurologist, was thrilled to say the least. We all know what this means to our patients. It is something we could never have done for them. For that we are truly thankful to you.
I assure you that we will teach any patient that wants to learn. We have already designated a music room. We will send pictures your way so that you can see how much this is appreciated and utilized. Please know that your kindness and generosity has truly touched our hearts and will positively impact our patients for years to come.
You have blessed us. Thank you!
Warmest Wishes,
Cindy Wolfe
